The Green Bay bridge replacement project is now complete and was delivered under budget.

The project began several years ago when the municipality hired Pier Solutions to evaluate all the bridges within the municipality. The evaluation included rating each bridge, identifying required maintenance, estimating the associated costs, and determining when each bridge would reach end of its useful life and require replacement.
At the time the Greenbay bridge received the lowest rating and was identified as the first bridge that would require replacement. While ongoing maintenance could extend its service life to a certain extent, the evaluation determined that the bridge ultimately needed to be replaced.
The CAO applied for funding under the provincial Municipal Economic Development Infrastructure Program and was successful in securing $1,450,000.00 in funding. The remaining funds required for the project were allocated from the municipality’s bridge reserve.
The total projected cost for the bridge replacement was $1,932,745.88. The final cost was $1,880,280.57, resulting in savings of $52,465.31.
The new Green Bay bridge has an estimated lifespan of 75 years. It also features a wider deck, a higher elevation, and a wider open span across the river, providing improvements to the bridge and its overall capacity.
The completion of the project represents the benefits of proper long-range planning by the municipality. It is an important investment in the municipalities’ infrastructure and will ensure that the Green Bay Bridge will continue to serve the community for many years to come.
